9 March 2020: Boden Academy held a round-table meeting on “The Disputes Arising from Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contracts”

Boden Academy held a round table discussion on “The Disputes Arising from Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contracts” with the attendance of İnanç Akalın (Senior Partner, Boden Law) and Şeyma Olğun (Senior Associate, Boden Law) as speakers and with the moderation of Değer Boden (Managing Partner, Boden Law) on 9 March 2020.

In the meeting, among the others, main reasons of the disputes under Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contracts, matters to be taken into account in negotiation process for avoiding disputes, and in a potential dispute scenario, dispute samples from the practice, current outbreak of coronavirus and its effects on EPC and Operation-Maintenance (O&M) Contracts have been discussed. We would like to thank very much to the representatives of reputable institutions and enterprises from different sectors for their valuable attendance and contributions.”

3 March 2020: Sinem Mermer made a speech titled “When cyber-security fails: A legal road map for companies” on IT Forum Turkey 2020 Conference

Our partner, Att. Sinem Mermer gave a speech titled “When cyber-security fails: A legal road map for companies” in IT Forum Turkey 2020 Conference held on 3 March 2020. Our partner delivered a speech about the challenges that companies are predominantly facing, from a cyber-security stand point. During her speech, she laid out companies’ liabilities and obligations in case of data breaches under Turkish Data Privacy Law and EU General Data Protection Regulation. Sinem Mermer also shared a strategical legal road map with the attendees showing the gray and joint application areas of applicable laws, which can be utilized by companies when the cyber-security measures fall short.

Our latest article “Türk Yatırımcıların Yurt Dışı Yatırımlarının Korunması (Protection of Foreign Investments of Turkish Investors)”, co-authored by our partner Değer Boden Akalın, senior associate Şeyma Olğun and associate Nazlı Aytu Özcan, has just been published in September-November-December 2019 edition of “INTES İnşaat Sanayi Dergisi (İnsan)”. The article reviews Turkey’s all bilateral and multilateral investment treaties as well as free trade agreements with investment chapters in general sense and aims to provide guidance to Turkish investors.
